Core Audio DAIDIO REFERENCE music server

 







It is the beginning of a new era at Core Audio. From 15-18 May in Munich we will present our latest development, the DAIDIO REFERENCE music server, to the public for the first time.

After several prototypes and several years of development, the device is finally ready and we believe it will show the public some outstanding improvements in many aspects. After more than 10 years of music server development, even we have our surprises, and this time they were very positive. In fact, we believe that the role of digital source devices is to reproduce music as realistically as possible, and just as you peel the layers off an onion, you need the right tool to fully express the musical product. We feel that we have now reached a major milestone for us. We have laid the foundations with DAIDO Premium, which we launched last year in 2024, and will now be followed in 2025 by the first member of the REFERENCE family, the big brother.

Which we think is the most important new feature, apart from the many, many little things:

3-level CNC-milled aluminium housing (separated space for transformers)

7" touchscreen (with full Audirvana support, with the option to boot with album artwork)

PC PSU 2.0 featuring 180F capacitors, providing huge, sub-layered dynamic bass and noise-free power supply (0.5uV)

The Statement unit builds on the foundations laid down by the ZENith SE but with a second, umbilically-linked box housing the transformer, separately enclosed to prevent vibrations and EMI emissions from polluting the rest of the circuit, and a new power supply designed one Dr. Sean Jacobs.

From the power supply, eight independent power rails are extracted to independently power each of the custom motherboard’s critical components (CPU, hard drive etc.) plus an in-house designed USB board and 3ppb OCXO clock for higher precision and lower phase noise.

Playback Designs Sonoma series Merlot Dac & Syrah Music Server
















Playback Designs is launching a new series of components under the Sonoma name—in reference to the eponymous pro audio DSD workstations—and the first two introductions are the Merlot DAC and the Syrah Music Server. Naturally, they borrow their names from wine grapes—a nod to the wonderful (if somewhat counterintuitive) symmetry linking the enjoyment of good wines with the joy and awareness derived from profound musical experiences. Driving this audiophile/oenophile point home further, each product is shipped with a bottle of wine from a high-quality private winery.

The Merlot DAC is a state-of-the-art D/A converter with AES/SPDIF/USB/PLink digital inputs that support any sample rate and format up to quad DSD. Its discrete architecture is software upgradeable for future Playback Designs updates. In addition to balanced and unbalanced line-level analog outputs, there’s also a headphone output on the front panel with discrete volume control. An easy-to-use recording software application allows the creation of wave or DFF/DSF files on a computer from digital sources connected to Merlot.

The Syrah Music Server is the companion product to the Merlot DAC. It provides internal storage, but can be connected to external storage and networks. The Syrah supports DLNA streaming, rips CDs automatically from an external drive, and offers extensive metadata capabilities. Able to be controlled via iPad/Android tablets, it supports any file format and native sample rate, and connects to Merlot via USB for native file playback. Also on offer is the “OpBox” modification kit for Oppo players, which allows a direct connection to the Merlot DAC via ST optical cable. This permits digital audio data sourced from any disc (CD, SACD, DVD or Blu-ray) to be transmitted natively via the Oppo’s optical output to Merlot for direct conversion to analog. The conversion is an easy install and can be performed either by a dealer or end user directly.

Förster Audiotechnik Electronics With Fibre Optics


























The FA.KA 1 forms the data distribution and control centre of the FA audio system. This is where the audio signals arriving from the various digital sources such as the SACD drive and the audio PC are selected for playback, set to an appropriate level and transmitted in I2S format to the amplifiers. Audio signals, which do not arrive via the optical cables in a jitter-free I2S format that transports the audio signals separately from clock signals and other control signals, are converted into I2S signals in the FA.KA 1. Using this method enables the revolutionary concept of CHRONAL TECHNOLOGIE to be implemented consistently for all audio sources. The FA.KA 1 also functions as a remote control for the digital sources and as an amplifier using a tablet-PC and displays the volume.

The casings of FÖRSTER AUDIOTECHNIK digital devices are shaped out of a solid piece of aluminium and make a positive impression with their top-class craftmanship. In order to completely decouple the casings mechanically from the substrates, three precision metal components made from polished stainless steel are inserted into each casing on which the devices, which are cushioned with rubber rings, almost "hover".

Our high-end two-channel digital amplifier FA.DV 2 can be combined with other digital components and our (analogue) speakers to offer the best possible musical experience using CHRONAL TECHNOLOGIE. The FA.DV 2 is an extremely high-performance digital amplifier with two separate amplification stages for providing a separate power supply to the subwoofer and the midrange speakers as well as tweeters, respectively.

In the context of CHRONAL TECHNOLOGIE, we have developed a unique system for the FA.DV 2 that can be used to transmit digital signals including time and clock information across numerous parallel optical cables without there being any loss, disturbance and jitters. The purely optical mode of transmission also covers large distances of several hundred metres.

The digital amplifier created with a minimalist and timeless design is positioned laterally at the loudspeaker adjacent to its rear edge in order to ensure efficient energy transmission, and is connected to the respective speaker via the FA-BRÜCKE that makes the conventional speaker cables redundant and acts as a replacement for them. A potential alternative method to this is creating a connection using our FA.AK 2 speaker cable.

In combination with the other FA digital components, the FA.DV 2 uses CHRONAL TECHNOLOGIE to provide a pure, clear and particularly voluminous sound that at the same time reproduces all the "warm" and emotional nuances of music without adding or taking anything away. The Audiorechner FA.AR 1, which we developed ourselves, can be operated easily and intuitively by a tablet remote control, just like a CD player. Its specially programmed RAM player software takes the digital data directly from the hard disk, a USB flash drive, or the network and transfers them at 100% to the RAM, from where they are then reproduced in real time. The FA.AR 1 uses a Linux-command line-OS with real-time kernel as operating system. Communication is completely jitter-free – for an extraordinary music experience without inaccuracies and deferrals; for an absolutely precise, spatial and natural sound that enchants all senses and triggers emotions.

One exceptional feature is the specially developed, error-free interface at which the data with the corresponding time and tact information are being transmitted over several parallel optical links. All in line with CHRONAL TECHNOLOGIE, with which FÖRSTER AUDIOTECHNIK vouches for a uniquely flawless reproduction quality.

The FA.DS 1 is our SACD transport which we developed according to the high standards of CHRONAL TECHNOLOGIE. It transmits digital data read from a CD or SACD to the digital amplifier. The interface usually used in this process is highly susceptible to jitter, which impairs the sound experience.

But not with the interface specially developed by FÖRSTER AUDIOTECHNIK, throughwhich FA.DS 1 communicates: It is based on several parallel optic fibres, which transport the digital audio data separately from the time and tact data completely without errors. The result is a perfectly natural, time-coherent, clear and spatial reproduction of music . You will hear the difference!

Our fibre optics cable FA.AK 1 transmits data without any losses thanks to the high frequency of light. In the audio sector optical fibres are used in connection with toslink interfaces, which, unlike the high-quality optical fibre cables we use (in connection with I2S interfaces), do not exhaust the technology of optical fibres in connection with I2S interfaces.

At FÖRSTER AUDIOTECHNIK we use optic fibre cables with four bundled optical fibres for interference-free separate transmission of data-, time- and interface-related control information.

By the way, the data connections between the earth’s continents also consist of optic fibres because they can transmit signals over great distances with an extremely low rate of losses and interferences.

ReQuest Audio The Beast Luxury Music Server



























ReQuest Audio Switzerland has created the ultimate Luxury Music Server for the discerning listener, providing specialised High End distributors and dealers the ultimate solution for their clients.

The first audio server ever, that was developed to be perfect to the last detail. A result of combining knowledge and experience in High-End manufacturing and passion for music. Operation and control of features and settings are adjusted on the build in 7” High Definition Touchscreen using software developed specifically for this purpose.

The Beast can be fully used and operated without access to the internet. No computer is needed and the unit can be used as soon as you take it out of the box. The server comes with its dedicated integrated ripping station and special ripping software.

The Operating System, Control Software and library software are all Linux based and written by our own engineers and have been optimized over the last 12 years. For the metadata, the server is connected to the Licensed Data base library from GRACENOTE.

This impressive piece of high-end technology has a stable and zero resonance chassis fully made out of high-grade aluminum.

Each of the main components of the server has its own dedicated sealed enclosure to prevent any interference and guarantees a perfect protection from distortions. Wire paths are optimized and are located inside sealed enclosures.

The Beast is available with internal storage of 0.96 TB or 1.92TB SSD. When adding a NAS drive to the system it is possible to add as much external storage as needed. Our own special software allows you to decide whether new media files are stored internally or externally. That means high-end recordings can be stored on the internal SSD and the lower quality files on an external storage (NAS only).

By adding a ReQuest Film Player, The Beast can be used for video play-back and storage (NAS recommended). The Beast can rip and store both DVD and BLU-RAY formats.

The Beast can be fully integrated into a custom installation system through a serial port or over IP. For all available control systems (CRESTRON/AMX/CONTROL4/KNX…) 2-way interfaces are available. The user-friendly interface makes it easy to set up and control the server.

Our user friendly web browser Interface allows easy editing of Metadata and can be used to configure The Beast. The built-in interface allows to control the server from any mobile device or Computer (browser must support HTM5).

Another unique service is our own online support system - ARQ LINK. Over the years we have developed a reporting system to monitor our products. The daily reporting from each BEAST guarantees a perfect support and unmatched customer service.

Arq-Link  allows each client to login from anywhere in the world to his BEAST and add Music (even uploading music) or editing data on the server. THE BEAST’s many unique functions can be customized for each individual user.

It is possible to synchronize multiple iTunes libraries in both ways (export and import), this way iTunes may be used as an editing software.
The server will encode each media into lossless formats such as WAV or FLAC and simultaneously it can encode a MP3 file for syncing and streaming purposes. The server will always play the lossless file.
The MP3 files can be streamed to any mobile device inside the network or even via the internet. The same thing can be done with movies.

The Beast can synchronize music in full format with customer’s other BEASTs or ReQuest Audio products in different locations. Each location then becomes a backup of the Master BEAST. When  adding music or editing a playlist on the Master BEAST, each other BEAST/ReQuest device of the same owner will have the same data in minutes.
