Boulder 1108 Phono Stage

The 1108 is a new phono preamplifier that replaces the 1008 and slots in between the 508 and the 2108.

Because of the recent revisions and success of the 1100 Series, the last remaining component to be redesigned was the 1008 phono preamplifier.

The 1008’s appearance was a holdover from the previous 1000 Series and the changes made internally bring the new phono preamplifier up-to-date technologically. The most obvious design change is the modernized front panel and casework that now matches the rest of the 1100 Series, featuring rounded corners and topographical map detailing on the front panel.

LED colors are the same as the rest of the 1100 Series, and the button layout is much like the 1110 Preamplifier. The topography lines also match and line up with the other components in the series.

Inside, the changes include a newly designed logic control system and a new power supply. Logic control was chosen to eliminate any noise from running microprocessors that could be picked up by the initial phono high-gain stage, and the previous 1008 had the power supply located close to the control section where noise could radiate and cause problems.

We’ve also increased the operating efficiency of the power supply and pushed any supply noise to well outside of the audio band and even farther out past the bandwidth of the phono preamplifier’s gain section.
