The 825 is equipped with 3 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs, a signal loop function, and a USB audio interface that complies with the “Audio Class 2 Standard”.

Extensive signal conditioning ensures standardization of data
Digital data arriving at the inputs is processed before it is passed to the actual D/A converter. Once jitter has been removed (<50ps rms) in “auto mode”, the data is converted to the default 24-bit/96 kHz. This conversion is a prerequisite for the use of an innovative input receiver with digital PLL and data buffer, and a sample rate converter (SRC) normally found only in the studio sector. A microcontroller monitors the sample rate of data at the input and ensures that only data below 24/96 is submitted for upsampling. Data with 24/96 or higher is passed “natively” without any further processing. The standardized data is made available at the digital output of the 825 as well as at the DAC input. In addition to the auto mode, the user can specify fixed sample rates or choose to bypass the SRC (native mode).

A signal loop function, which is switchable in the menu, allows a digital signal processor (DSP) such as a room correction system to be connected directly.

High Speed USB 24-bit/192 kHz
The 825 High Definition Disc Player is the world’s first CD player to be equipped with a "USB Audio Class 2" audio interface that accepts high quality music data up to 24-bit and 192 kHz. The Player handles all customary data formats, i.e. 44.1 kHz/ 48 kHz/ 88.2 kHz/ 96 kHz/ 176.4 kHz/ 192 kHz.

Apple Computers (from OSX 10.6.4/ Snow Leopard) need no additional drivers to play these data formats. The 88.2 kHz and 176.4 kHz formats are not supported as standard by the Windows operating systems XP, Vista und 7, which require a kernel driver to be installed. A driver authenticated for Lindemann is contained on the CD supplied with the 825 High Definition Disc Player.

State-of-the-art D/A converter
The digital to analog converter in the 825 High Definition Disc Player is galvanically isolated to form a "source component within a source component". It has its own completely separate power supply with its own mains transformer windings. To maximize resolution, the digital signal is processed by a Blackfin DSP. The code used is a Lindemann proprietary further development of the well-known Anagram Sonic 2. Not only does the system accommodate the upstream mono mode DACs. In addition the original linear phase filter has been replaced with a much better sounding minimum phase filter with an "apodizing behaviour" – one of this player’s main design features. This type of filter effectively suppresses time domain artefacts (including those present in the recording) and substitutes a new, time-coherent impulse response.

An ultra-stable master clock (<2.5ps jitter) guarantees D/A conversion of the highest quality.

The converter chips from Wolfson, which work in mono mode at 24-bit/384 kHz, have proven themselves to be extremely musical, outperforming other brands in listening tests.
